Currently and Anticipating the Month Ahead

Today I'm linking up with Ms. Farley and with Jessica at Literacy Sparks to think about April!  I love this month!  My little girl will turn two on the 7th.  My 7th wedding anniversary is on the 8th.  We have three other birthdays in our circle of friends.  And {usually} the weather is amazing in NY in April!

The only thing that probably isn't self explanatory is wool and copper.  My guy and I like to do the traditional anniversary gifts.  For the seventh anniversary, the traditional gift is copper and the modern gift is wool (or the other way around. ;)  and my mind is BLANK.  I may have to stray from our tradition, because I just can't think of anything I'd like to give him!

Here are the rules for Jessica's linky:
  • Share one thing you are looking forward to during the month of April.
  • Share one thing you are dreading during the month of April.
  • Share one thing that you hope to accomplish during the month of April.
Looking forward to Reading The One and Only Ivan with one of my guided reading groups.  I'm really hoping to transition them into a mini literature circle.  They will need a ton of support, but I think this book will spark great conversation!

Dreading:  Tests.  That is all.

Accomplish:  I have an Earth Day/Poetry Project I really really REALLY want to do with my class.  I'm going to try really hard not to let testing mania take over our lives this month and get this project done!  We are going to do some review of metaphors and similes and then some new work with personification.  And if I can really get my act together, there will be some art fun in the midst of testing craziness!  It's nothing crazy elaborate, but it hits Earth Day and Poetry Month.  I just love a project that can serve double duty!

I hope everyone is having a joke-free April Fools Day!

  1. I just found you through Farley's currently linky! I think we're all dreading testing which I think is just ridiculous, but who am I to say? :o)

  2. I saw the wool and copper and thought maybe you were doing an electricity/magnets experiment like we're doing in 2nd grade LOL! Happy Birthday to your little man!

  3. Our 7th anniversary is April 8th, and I cannot think of anything to get my husband either! I agree that chocolate solves everything! I am glad I found your blog! I am your newest follower.

  4. You will be busy in April! Maybe you can do a copper keychain? I would love a copper pot like Julia Child!

  6. I'm dreading math tests that start up this week, we did better than expected for reading (I'm really hoping this will be true in math!) And yes, chocolate does wonders!

What a full and fun month ahead for you; I hope you have plenty of time to enjoy it all!

  7. Thanks for linking up! Too bad the weather is getting better or you could go with a wool sweater! I'm sure you would rather the sun come!

  8. I want to try some literature circles after spring break too! I just bought Laura Candler's "book clubs" (not technically literature circles) guide on TPT and need to delve into watching some videos. My lesson plans after break take precedence though...if I can ever buckle down:)

I think that is a great tradition that you and your husband started with your anniversary!

  9. I tried to read The One and Only Ivan to a small group of 5th graders and do a "book club". It was a disaster! I am going to try again with fourth. I love the book. I found so many great resources online about the real Ivan. I had the students go to google maps and we mapped the address of the B & I Circus Store where the real Ivan was, we used street view so they could see the mall. I also found a blog with an author who had been to the zoo and filmed the real Ivan. And there is a lot of info. about his death which was this past August. I don't know why the kids just couldn't get into the book, so I am getting ready to re-group and try again. I hope you will blog about your experience - I'd love to see your ideas and what you do.

  10. I found you through Jessica's linky and love your blog! I don't know how big y'all go for gifts but I've seen cute penny key chains on etsy that are the year you got married and then behind it is a metal plate that says something about being lucky to have found you and then you could wrap it in wool, lol. I'm hosting an April Monthly Market linky where teachers post what they do for the month in the areas of poetry, weather, and testing. I would love for you to link up with your ideas! I'm happy to say I'm your newest follower!
